Brexit

  • 22 Jun 2016
  • For the second time in two years, Britons will have a referendum to decide whether or not they'll leave a union of nations.

Like Scotland seceding from the United Kingdom, the possibility of the United Kingdom seceding from the European Union has caught me by surprise. I’ve seen and heard “Brexit” here and there for some months, but I’ve always assumed that it’s a fringe movement. I’m obviously wrong, because the referendum is tomorrow, but like Scotland collectively voting for Better Together, I think that the UK will collectively vote for Remain.

John Oliver

I only know the basics about the EU, so like other ignorant and lazy people, I’m relying on John Oliver to help me learn a little bit more.

Brussels Calling

The UK joined the EU in 1973. Three years later, The Clash formed in London. Six years afterward, they released their final album, Combat Rock, which had one of their most well-known songs.

Scotland gaining independence would’ve been more historic, but the UK isolating itself would be more consequential.
